The Loft Job – Terms and Conditions


1. General Information

These Terms and Conditions form the agreement between you (“the Customer”) and The Loft Job(“the Company”). Please read them carefully before accepting a quotation.

Acceptance of a quotation confirms that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.


2. Scope of Work

The Company will carry out loft boarding, ladders, hatches, insulation, mains lighting, and associated electrical works as detailed in the accepted quotation.

All works will be completed using reasonable skill and care, in accordance with the agreed specifications.


3. Installation Scheduling

  • A proposed installation date will be agreed once a deposit has been received.

  • The Company will make reasonable efforts to meet agreed dates but cannot be held liable for delays caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including adverse weather, material availability, access issues, or unforeseen site conditions.

  • Where delays occur, a new installation date will be agreed in good faith.

  • Delays outside the Company’s control do not automatically give rise to a right of cancellation or refund.


4. Deposit and Payment Terms

  • A 50% depositof the total quoted price is required to secure an installation date.

  • Installation dates are provisionally held for 24 hoursand are only confirmed once the deposit has been received.

  • The remaining balance is due upon practical completionof the works.

  • Payments are accepted by BACS transfer or by debit or credit card via Stripe.

  • Cash and cheque payments are not accepted.

  • Invoices not paid within 14 daysof the invoice date may incur a £25 administration fee. The Company reserves the right to recover reasonable costs incurred in pursuing overdue payments.


5. Variations and Additional Costs

  • Any additional work or variations requested by the Customer and agreed in writingwill incur additional charges.

  • Delays or additional costs caused by the Customer, including restricted access or changes to the agreed scope, may be charged with prior notification.

  • All hatch sizes, layouts, and specifications are as detailed in the accepted quotation.


6. Permissions

If the Customer is a tenant or housing association member, it is their responsibility to obtain all necessary permissions before works commence. The Company assumes such permissions have been granted and accepts no liability for disputes arising from their absence.


7. Access Requirements

  • The Customer must provide clear, safe, and uninterrupted access to the property for the duration of the works.

  • Access may be required for electricians before or after boarding works, which will be confirmed once the booking is made.


8. Electrical Works and Subcontractor Scheduling

  • Where electrical works are required and carried out by a subcontractor, the installation date for such works may take place before or afterthe agreed loft boarding installation date.

  • The exact timing of any electrical works will be confirmed once a booking has been madeand is subject to subcontractor availability.

  • Variations in the scheduling of electrical works do not constitute a delay or breach of contract, provided the works are completed within a reasonable time frame.


9. Hazardous Materials

  • The quotation excludes the identification, removal, or handling of hazardous materials, including asbestos.

  • If hazardous materials are discovered, work will cease immediately until the area has been professionally cleared.

  • Work may only recommence once valid clearance documentation has been provided.

  • The Company accepts no liability for delays or costs arising from hazardous material removal.


10. Warranty and Weight Limitations

  • All loft works (parts and labour) are covered by a 5-year workmanship warranty.

  • Exceeding the specified load limit of 25kg per square metrewill invalidate the warranty.

  • Loft ladders supplied and installed by the Company are covered under the same warranty.

  • Weight limits are clearly stated on quotations and invoices.


11. Liability for Damage

  • The Company will take reasonable care during installation but is not responsible for minor or incidental damage to decorations or fittings.

  • Redecoration following loft hatch installation is the Customer’s responsibility unless expressly included in the quotation.

  • The Company is not liable for damage to items left in the loft. The loft must be cleared prior to installation. Failure to do so may delay works and incur additional costs.


12. Insurance

The Company maintains appropriate insurance for its employees and subcontractors in respect of negligence-related loss or injury.


13. Force Majeure

The Company shall not be liable for delays or failure to perform due to events beyond its reasonable control, including extreme weather, fire, accidents, supply chain disruptions, or utility failures.


14. Illness or Injury Affecting Scheduled Works

  • If the Company, its employees, or subcontractors are unable to attend or complete the works on the agreed date due to illness, injury, or other unavoidable circumstances, the Company will notify the Customer as soon as reasonably possible.

  • In such circumstances, the Company will offer the earliest available alternative date to reschedule the works at no additional cost.

  • This will not constitute a breach of contract and does not give rise to a right of cancellation or compensation, provided the works are rescheduled within a reasonable timeframe.

  • Where works cannot be rescheduled within a reasonable timeframe, the Customer may cancel the booking and any deposit paid will be refunded in full.


15. Limitation of Liability

The Company is responsible for foreseeable loss or damage caused by its breach of this agreement.
This does not affect the Customer’s statutory rights or the separate 5-year workmanship warranty.


16. Use of Contractors

The Company may use suitably qualified and approved subcontractors to carry out all or part of the works.


17. Additional Charges

  • Parking permits or vehicle registrations must be provided where required.

  • Skip permits must be arranged where a skip is required on a public highway.
    Any delays, penalties, or costs resulting from failure to provide permits may be charged to the Customer.


18. Callbacks

  • If an issue relates directly to works carried out by the Company, it will be rectified at no cost.

  • If the issue is unrelated, additional charges may apply.


19. Quotations

All quotations are free, non-binding, and valid for 14 daysunless otherwise stated.


20. Retention of Title

Ownership of all goods supplied remains with the Company until full payment has been received.


21. Non-Payment

Failure to pay invoices may result in legal action. Any reasonable costs incurred in recovering unpaid sums may be added.
This agreement is governed by English law.


22. Warranty Exclusions

The 5-year workmanship warranty does not cover:

  • Improper use or overloading

  • Lack of maintenance or unauthorised alterations

  • Accidental or deliberate damage

  • Third-party interference


23. Cancellation and Rescheduling (Fair & Flexible Policy)

  • The Customer has the right to cancel within 14 days of accepting the quotation, in accordance with consumer regulations, provided that work has not commenced and project-specific materials have not been ordered. The 14-day period begins on the date of acceptance.

  • If cancellation occurs after the 14-day cooling-off period and more than 7 days before the agreed installation date, the 50% deposit will be refunded, less any reasonable costs already incurred (such as surveys, administration, or materials ordered).

  • If cancellation occurs within 7 days of the agreed installation date, the Company may retain part or all of the deposit to cover losses incurred, including allocated labour, administration, and materials.

  • Where possible, the Company will offer the option to reschedule the installation dateinstead of cancelling, subject to availability and without penalty.
